William C. Wood (retired)

Mr. Wood practiced family law in Richmond for almost 50 years before retiring in 2015. He regularly served the Richmond area courts as a Commissioner-in Chancery or Judge Pro Tempore hearing cases involving complex divorce litigation. He is a former member of the Board of Governors of the Family Law Section of the Virginia State Bar and was active in many other state and local bar associations. In 2003, Mr. Wood was honored to serve on a committee of local judges and family law attorneys, which over the course of several months established Uniform Domestic Relations Practices and Procedures for the Circuit Courts of Richmond, Henrico, Chesterfield and Colonial Heights. Mr. Wood holds Martindale-Hubbell’s highest AV rating,  is listed in Virginia Super Lawyers, and is listed in Best Lawyers in America.

In 2010, Mr. Wood was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Family Law Section of the Virginia State Bar.

Mr. Wood is a graduate of Randolph-Macon College (1962) and the T.C. Williams School of Law, University of Richmond (1966). In 1997, he was certified as a mediator by the Supreme Court of Virginia. He is frequently asked to lecture local bar associations on mediation and family law issues. Mr. Wood is a past member of the Virginia State Bar’s Third District Committee on legal ethics.
